Mary has uncovered an astonishing find! While she is helping out at a furniture drive, she finds a false bottom in a desk drawer. Inside, she discovers a mysterious manuscript that isn’t quite what it seems; it’s a confession for burning down the Ivy Bay clock tower long ago! But Mary knows that someone was convicted for that same fire! Was this person wrongly accused for the crime? With the clock tower becoming a suspiciously important landmark in the upcoming mayoral race, it’s up to Mary to discover the truth behind the manuscript and uncover a story that someone is trying to hide. Mary has become the victim of identity theft! Her efforts to contractually adjust the mortgage of the bookshop are denied because of an incredibly excessive balance on a new credit card that she doesn’t recall ever applying for. Who would have access to Mary’s personal information, and more importantly, who would want to aim an attack squarely at Mary in Ivy Bay? As Mary investigates the matter further, she discoverers the list of possible suspects is longer than she initially realized. When Mary observes a young woman pretending to read a book in Mary’s Mystery Bookshop as though she is waiting for someone, Mary discovers that the young woman—named Katie— suffers from amnesia and doesn’t recall anything that happened prior to that day. Katie’s only clue regarding past events is a note telling her to arrive at Mary’s bookshop at 1:12 PM. With a recent mugging in town, in addition to a suspicious man following Katie around town, Mary cannot help but think that these events are all related in some way. Can she help Katie resolve her past with the present, or are some memories better left forgotten?
